Why?
Short answers to questions you might have.
Why a peony?
The scent of it can't be forgotten; I still have the original bottle of perfume. The bloom on the home page is drawn entirely in SVG (no image files, nothing to download).
Why these projects?
They are a selected set of useful open-source tools that I've built and benefited from personally.
Why write posts?
It's a way for me to comment on things. The thoughts that survive a heavy filtering process end up here.
Why build alternatives to software that already exists?
Independence from third-party tools (to a certain extent), learning, convenience. Plus, competition drives better software (not that I'm competing).
Why self-hosted, why open source?
We stand on the shoulders of open-source projects; it's only fair.
